Collide Day 4 Mexican Group

For the Mexican Group, below is the assessment outline for the collide project:

Accident Report Assessment

You will be split into two groups. One group who is trying to prosecute the case and find the person who is driving the car that collided with another guilty of speeding before the collision and the other group will be acting as the defense who will be trying to get the jury to return a verdict of not guilty. In both cases the accident report you have to submit as your assessment will be the same.

Your accident report will be assessed on the following criteria:

Context (10 points): Explain the situation and the purpose of the report.

Evidence (20 points): List all the pieces of evidence that you wish to put forward as part of your case – in the reports and crash scene there is a lot of information, some of it pertinent, some of it not to your case. List all the information you believe to be important for your case and explain why it will be important.

Calculation (30 points): You need to provide mathematical evidence as to whether the person was speeding or not. You can choose to include variables from the evidence and other sources as you wish but you must provide an argument as to why you have included the evidence you have included. You must show the calculation for the speed of the Audi before it begins breaking. Be careful to include units in your calculations. Remember you are making the decisions about what to include in your calculations – if you provide reasoning for what you did and did not include that will be totally fine.

Counter Evidence (20 points): Your calculation will be evidence that the person was speeding or not speeding. You also need to make arguments based on variables as to whether the opposite is true. So if your calculation finds that the person is speeding then you should provide a counter argument as to why they might not have been speeding. The opposite is true, if you found that where not speeding then you should provide evidence as to why they were speeding.

Conclusion (10 points): Think of this as the closing remarks for the jury. You outline what you believe to be true and make an argument as to why that is the case. Keep this relatively brief as jury’s attention spans can be quite small.

Reflection (10 points): Reflect on what physics you have gained an understanding for over the first project and what you would still like more information about.
